Practice note
What a mid-size firm should do instead of hiring a security specialist
Most 80–300 person companies already pay someone to keep systems running. What they lack is a person who ranks risk, produces evidence, and answers the insurer or the examiner.
Hiring a CISO is a $400k–$600k loaded decision. Buying a 60-page threat report is how firms look busy. The useful artifact is a one-page scorecard and a 12-month list with owners.
That is Baseline when you need evidence, and Advisor when you need the named owner. Neither is a 24/7 SOC.
